Frequently Asked Questions
WHY SHOULD I HIRE A PERSONAL TRAINER?
• Get a customized training plan: For most gym-goers, figuring out which exercises to do and where to start can be the most intimidating part of going to the gym. Working with a trainer can take the guesswork out of it as they work with you to construct a plan that’s tailored to your needs.
• Form check: Personal trainers know how to properly perform exercises and can help make sure that you are exercising safely and with good form to reduce your risk of injury. It’s also a great way to learn how to work out properly so that you can feel more comfortable working out on your own.
• Accountability: Knowing that someone is waiting for you at the gym and that you are paying for that time with them can be a great motivator to get to the gym for your workout. Your personal trainer can also help to make sure you stay on track during your sessions so that you get the most out of your time spent at the gym.
• Try new exercises: Tired of doing the same exercises over and over? A CPT can introduce you to new exercises and equipment to keep things fresh as you crush your goals.
• Push past plateaus: Fit pros know how to appropriately change the intensity of your workouts in a safe and structured manner to keep you advancing. Plus, you’re likely to push yourself a bit harder with a trainer than you might on your own!
What’s your fitness philosophy?
My training philosophy is simple! When I started my fitness journey it unlocked benefits in not only my physical health but also my mental health as well. I want to help my clients unlock their full potential not only in the gym or in the game but also life in general through exercise! Look Better, Perform Better, Live Better!
What is the best way to lose fat?
Of course each client will respond in a different unique way to any training program. There are some basic principles that we can safely apply across the board.
Exercises that incorporate several major muscle groups (compound movements) and are weight bearing will utilize more calories per minute, and thus are going to be better suited for fat loss. The amount of body fat burned after a workout depends, in part, on the exercise intensity during the workout. While both strength training and endurance exercise (cardio) have been shown to decrease body fat percentage, a combination of endurance and strength training results in more fat loss than either exercise regimen alone.
Why Can’t I just do cardio?
While cardiovascular training is great for building strong hearts and lungs, it doesn’t provide the stimulus the body requires for building bigger, stronger muscles. Bodies are able to adapt fairly quickly to whatever load we ask them to move. Adding strength training to an exercise program allows the client to increase the load on his muscles, alter the range of motion through which the joints move, and target different muscles than those utilized during typical cardiovascular training.
Should I Be taking any supplements?
The majority of clients will not require any dietary supplements unless they present with a documented vitamin deficiency however I do recommend my clients take creatine monohydrate. Creatine is a compound that your body naturally makes, and you also get it from protein-rich foods. It supplies energy to your muscles and may also promote brain health. Many people take creatine supplements to increase strength, improve performance and help keep their minds sharp. There’s a lot of research on creatine, and creatine supplements are safe for most people to take.
